Some Guidelines For The New Investor

Money: it’s nice to have and not so nice if you don’t have any. This book is written with retirement in mind, that time in which there is no longer a regular paycheck coming in and we are reduced to living on Social Security and/or a pension, if we are lucky. Some reports state that nearly a quarter of all Americans have less than $10,000 saved for their golden years. That’s one out of every four of you who are going to have to scrimp because you did not save when you could have. Quite frankly, that is not going to do it, as there is no wiggle room for travel, or catastrophic illness, or if your rowboat with its expensive motor just sank in the middle of the lake, or whatever. Therefore, you need a financial cushion – and the bigger the better.

 Darrell D. Young retired early from his position as a professor of General Science and Science Education at SUNY in Buffalo, New York, to care for his wife, Judith. He has a BA from the University of Northern Iowa, an MA from the University of Northern Colorado, and a DEd from SUNY. In his youth, he served in the U.S. Army as a clerk typist before getting his education and becoming a teacher. He has traveled extensively in the UK.
