The leaves are broad, sword-shaped, and grow in a tight upright rosette with a deep green base color overlaid with faint, darker cross-banding and lighter marginal edges. Each leaf is firm and waxy to the touch, tapering to a stiff point at the tip. Fabi Snake Plant stays on the compact side, typically reaching 12 to 24 inches tall, with leaves that are thicker and more densely packed than many standard Sansevieria trifasciata cultivars.
Flowering on this cultivar is infrequent indoors and not reliably documented, so it is grown primarily for its foliage. What is well confirmed: Fabi Snake Plant actively filters indoor air, removing formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from the surrounding environment. It also releases oxygen at night rather than during the day, a trait that sets it apart from most common houseplants.
It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 85°F and handles the dry, heated air common in most indoor spaces. Keep it away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents, which can stress the leaves over time.
Q: Is Snake 'Fabi' Sansevieria safe for cats and dogs?
A: Cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat the plant, as ingestion can cause irritation and digestive upset. Keep it on a high shelf or in a spot well out of their reach.
Q: How do I know when it needs more light?
A: Snake 'Fabi' Sansevieria will begin to lean noticeably toward the light source, and new leaves may emerge narrower or paler than established ones. Moving it closer to a north or east-facing window usually corrects this without risking sun scorch.
Q: Can Fabi Snake Plant go outside in summer?
A: Yes, once outdoor temperatures stay reliably above 60°F at night, you can move it outside to a sheltered spot with indirect light. Keep it under a porch roof or awning, as it needs cover from rain and should not sit in waterlogged soil.
Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Fabi Snake Plant stores water in its thick leaves, so excess moisture in the soil leads to root rot relatively quickly. The base of the leaves may turn soft or yellow, and the roots will smell unpleasant when the pot is lifted.
Q: How tall does Fabi Snake Plant get?
A: It typically reaches between 12 and 24 inches tall indoors, staying on the more compact end of the Sansevieria trifasciata range. Growth is slow to moderate, with most new leaves appearing in spring and summer.
Q: Can it really clean indoor air?
A: Fabi Snake Plant filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins and releases oxygen overnight rather than during daylight hours. It does this passively as part of its normal metabolic cycle.
