Moonlight Cactus, also known as Selenicereus wercklei, Rhipsalis lumbricoides, or sometimes sold as Rhipsalis 'Leiza', is a tropical trailing forest cactus with slender, mistletoe-like stems that cascade beautifully from shelves or hanging pots. Native to Central and South America, it’s an epiphytic jungle dweller that thrives indoors with minimal fuss and no spines to worry about. A true sculptural stunner that looks ethereal and brings calm rainforest vibes to your home.
Plant Care
Light:
Bright, indirect light is best, though it can tolerate some gentle morning or late afternoon sun. Keep it out of harsh midday rays to avoid scorching.
Watering:
Let the top of the soil dry out slightly between waterings. It likes a lightly moist, airy environment — the stems will soften if it gets too dry, which is your cue to water.
Temperature:
Thrives between 16–24°C. Keep above 12°C and avoid cold drafts. Loves warmth and humidity.
Potting:
Best potted in our Airy aroid or sandy loam mix (depending on how often you want to water— just the right balance of drainage and moisture retention for this rainforest cactus.
Hot tips:
This forest cactus is fast-growing and happy to be trimmed if it gets too wild. Rotate it occasionally for even trailing and mist if your air is super dry. While it rarely blooms indoors, its nocturnal flowers are spectacular in the wild.
