In the heart of the vineyard, near the village of St Péray for the vines planted in 1901. The youngest vines on steep hillsides sheltered from the north winds, 3 km from the village at the place called "Le Tram". A wine for sunny days! Notes of white-fleshed fruits and citrus fruits, to which are added floral aromas. A wine with a generous but refreshing texture thanks to a beautiful acidity.
Of the '22: "Ripe quince, toasted spices, brioche, and minty flower notes all emerge from Courbis's 2022 Saint-Péray Le Tram, a richer, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet pure, beautifully balanced Saint-Péray. I'd put this up with the crème of the appellation, and it's going to absolutely sing on the dinner table over the coming 2-3 years. The blend is 85% Marsanne and 15% Roussanne, raised 70% in oak."
The origins of the Courbis family estate date back to the 16th century. More recently, the brothers Dominique and Laurent Courbis succeeded their father, Maurice, in the early 1990s. Working from their gravity fed winery built into the slopes of St Joseph, the two are at the forefront of modern winemaking in the Northern Rhone. Grapes are hand harvested and 100 percent de-stemmed.The Syrahs are vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel. Timings vary across the range. Lighter red wines are matured in a mix of tank and used barriques while top Cornas and St Joseph see a mix of new and one year old oak.
