This extraordinary historic camellia was grown from seed in 1838 by the Belgian Jacob Makoy. In Italy she is known as "General Colletti". The large peony-shaped flowers are a velvety blood red marbled with white.
The leaves are shiny, dark green, oblong in shape and serrated at the edges. The growth is bushy and sprawling.
Collettii has very good winter hardiness and is also very sun tolerant; it flowers from February to May. A magnificent specimen in the garden.
Like all multicolored camellias, it can form mutations so that the white portion of the flowers varies or the flowers can appear completely red, or white, or white-red. And all on one bush. Spectacular!
