Anthurium crassinervium 'Karma', commonly known as a bird's nest anthurium, is one of the most architectural foliage aroids you can grow indoors. The leaves are thick, glossy, and heavily ribbed, with a prominent pale midrib and deep lateral veining that gives the foliage a beautifully corrugated texture. 'Karma' is a selected cultivar prized for its fuller, more uniform rosette and its excellent vigour as a houseplant.
Origins
Anthurium crassinervium is native to the tropical lowlands and coastal forests of Venezuela, Colombia, and parts of the Caribbean, where it grows as an epiphyte or lithophyte on tree trunks and rocky outcrops in warm, humid conditions with bright, filtered light. The bird's nest growth habit allows the plant to collect falling leaves, rainwater, and organic debris in its central rosette, creating its own pocket of nutrients high above the forest floor.
Soil and Substrate
As an epiphyte with thick, fleshy roots, Anthurium crassinervium 'Karma' needs a chunky, airy substrate that drains sharply and never becomes soggy. Our Anthurium Potting Mix is ideally suited to this plant.
